Millepetit Cottage

Our Cottage is a perfect place for 2 people to base themselves for a holiday in the Languedoc. We are located just 12 km from Carcassonne train station and 19 km from the Airport and the Trèbes Port is a 45 minute stroll away along the iconic Canal du Midi. The lounge and bedroom, with a double bed, are on the first floor and access to the private outdoor courtyard is through the lounge. The terrace with a gas BBQ is ideal for a peaceful breakfast, an afternoon snooze or an evening meal under the stars.

The lounge has French and Satellite TV and there is free Wi Fi. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare wonderful meals from the fantastic seasonal produce available from the farm and the local markets. The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, gas oven and hob, microwave, kettle, washing machine and plenty of storage space. The bathroom is adjacent to the kitchen with a large shower and under basin storage.

We provide bed linen, bath, hand and tea towels which are all changed weekly for a longer duration stay. In the kitchen we provide a starter pack of milk, tea, coffee, oil and vinegar and a few herbs and spices.

The cottage is located in the Domaine de Millepetit, which is a working farm and wine domaine with its origins dating back to the beginning of the 13th Century. The Chateau was built in the mid 1800s and was a major wine producer until the 1980’s. The 6th generation owners now visit from Paris for their Easter and Summer vacations – it’s all a bid Downton Abbey!!! Our Cottage is part of the original stable block which is set one row back (about 50m) from the Canal.

We are happy to accept well behaved pets however, please ask before you book and we do ask for a discretionary cleaning fee of €20.

Domaine de Millepetit and the Canal du Midi

Millepetit is a perfect place to base yourself for visiting the Languedoc. We are an hour from the Med at Narbonne to the East, an hour from Toulouse to the west and the Pyrenees are only 1 ½ hours away to the south. We are ideally located for cycling, hiking, walking, boating and bird watching; exploring the historical Cathar castles; wine tasting, wild swimming, canoeing or just experiencing life on a working French farm. We provide you with a 7 day suggested travel itinerary and lots of information on the area. A car is recommended as there is no public transport and bicycles can be hired in Carcassonne or Trèbes, which is only a 45 minute walk along the Canal to the beautiful Port De Plaisance and its 5 restaurants.

The iconic Canal du Midi passes 50m from the Cottage. The history of the Canal is fascinating and to think it was built in the mid 1600’s. It is in constant use from 1 Apr to 31 Oct, with 30m barges, hire boats and the odd sailing boat (mast down of course) meandering slowly towards Carcassonne.

Beside the Canal du Midi we have four communal terraces, including our mooring and herb garden which are available to use every day. A perfect spot to have a meal beside the Canal and watch life on the Canal pass you by. Millepetit is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and apricot orchards and you can buy wines, fruit and vegetables direct from the Domaine’s market gardener or the colourful food markets at Trèbes or Carcassonne. Millepetit’s Pay d’Oc, rosé, white and red wines can be purchased from our neighbour’s ‘cellar, OK kitchen, door’!
The vineyards of Lézignan-Corbières and the Minervois are within a 15 minute drive or an easy cycle. Or you can simply sit and fish or listen to the myriad of birdlife from owls to orioles!
